Centre of Promotion and Development of Civil Initiatives „OPUS” was established in Lodz in June of 1999. Since then we have been helping people in the whole Lodz region to realize different initiatives for well-being of our society. We cooperate and share out experience with different nongovernmental organizations, social institutions as well as with non-formal groups which press towards positive changes in our society.
Together with them we work out a vision of their activities, inspire them and give encouragement to take active part in the public life. Our aim is responsible and active society which is able to solve its own problems as well as problems of others. We hope our work will contribute to better living conditions for everybody in our region.
Support of Nongovernmental Organizations.
The main beneficiaries of our Center is nongovernmental organizations from the Lodz region. Besides main office in Lodz we have three regional offices in Piotrkow Trybunalski, Skierniewice and Lenczyca. It helps us to be close to the problems of local communities and solve them more effectively. We propose consultation about different aspects of organizations’ functioning as well as wide range of the trainings on such topics as management of the nongovernmental organization, team building, fundraising and project management.
Informational Service www.lodzkie.ngo.pl
Center OPUS administrates informational portal for nongovernmental organization from the Lodz region www.lodzkie.ngo.pl. This site proposes wide range of information for everyone who is interested in civil and social themes in Lodz region. On this service we present various events of social and cultural life, encourage promotion of interesting initiatives, innovative projects of organizations and individuals who aim to change life in our region for the better. We develop this informational service as a space for different ideas which inspire and at the same time promote active civil position of every members in our society.
Regional Center of European Social Fund.
Since 2005 Center “OPUS” has been realizing project “Effectively, Professionally, Resulting – Regional Center of European Social Fund”. The main aim of the project is spreading of information about wide range of possibilities which ESF offers. Our Regional Centers provide training courses for local organizations interested to apply to this Fund, as well as our specialists propose consulting support during preparation and realization of the project.
In 2007 we were providing three Regional Centers in three sub regions: Lodz, Skierniewice and Piotrkow Trybunalski. This way more local organizations got direct access to the information about ESF and necessary consultations. It also let us to understand local problems and needs better and help institutions in the regions to get resources from this Fund in more effective way. Everywhere we promote opportunities connected with EFS’s activities we promote local development and partnership on a local and regional level.

Centre of Local Activity
The aim of the Center of Local Activity, (CAL) is the activating of society, making people act in their close surroundings as well as making the atmosphere of belonging to a given place and a local group. CAL is also cooperating with local institutions with the aim to work together for the profit of environment. Centre “OPUS” has been using CAL’s method in the region for the last couple of years.
We work with institutes of different types which want to solve the problems of their region by cooperation. We share with them our know-how and helps by making diagnoses and find local ways of solving them. In this way we want to activate society and get the condition in which the inhabitants of a given territory will be able to solve their problems themselves.
Social Economy
The main problem in our region in this direction is insufficient support of cooperating between the labor market, public administration and non-governmental organizations. We aspire to change this. Since 2007 Centre “OPUS” promotes development of the social economy in the Lodz region. The main idea of projects we have been doing is promotion of sense and profitableness of the social enterprises and presentation of this direction as an important stream of contemporary economy which is necessary to be invested. We propose consultations and help in project writing as well as try to increase the number of local partners which are interesting to work in this direction, make them to plan activities together and take common responsibility for the development of social economy in their communities.
International Network of Ecoclubes.
Ecoclubes is an international movement of young people actively participating in the construction of sustainable communities. The Ecoclubes – is a network of democratic organizations and non-formal groups made up of children and young people who coordinate their actions with other institutions in order to improve the quality of life of local communities. Members of the movement plan and implement awareness campaigns, making use of participative and innovative strategies, through which they seek how to involve members of the community into issues such as the struggle against dengue, integral waste management, urban reforestation or water management. Since its foundation in 1992 in Argentina, Ecoclubes has created an opportunity for thousands of young people from over 30 countries to learn and develop their leadership capacities, making them assume with responsible role of promoters of the community participation processes.
Since 2005 Centre “OPUS” is a national promoter of Ecoclubes’ Network in Poland as well as since 2007 officially promotes the movement in Eastern Europe. Using the Ecoclubs’ method of work with youth and experience of our South American partners we aim to encourage and develop various initiatives connected with ecology and sustainable development as well as organizations involved in this direction.
International Cooperation.
In the framework of the program of an international cooperation Center OPUS shares its experience with nongovernmental organizations and institutions from Eurasia and Latin America.
The main ideas of our common projects are:
• development of social activities
• involvement of citizens into the processes of decision making,
• non-formal youth education,
• raising the level of non-governmental organizations professional skills.
Thanks to this program we not only share our experience but also learn new methods and ways of work, get to know with different customs and traditions and challenge to live in different cultural environments. This helps us to understand the variety of contemporary world better and realize our own ideas successfully.
